When people don't know that a movie, musical, movie, or movie was originally a book is one of the saddest things in the world of literature.

Movies that were originally books:
How to Train Your Dragon
Mary Poppins
Peter Pan
(Actaully, it was a play, and then a book.)
Guardians of Ga'Hoole
Alice in Wonderland
Wizard of Oz
James and the Giant Peach
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
(And did you know there's a sequel?)

Believe it or not, the first two, as well as Wizard of Oz are actually the first books of a series, and Alice in Wonderland has a sequel as well.

These are the lesser-knowns I could think of off the top of my head.

Thoughts?

How to Train Your Dragon was better as a movie than as a book. I mean, the book sounds like it's just a three year old rambling. The movie had a nice plot.

It's also annoying when people think Eragon is just a movie instead of a four book series.

Forgot to mention Ella Enchanted, as well as the fact that The Princess and the Frog was inspired by the first book of a series.

I really liked Ella Enchanted (the book). They cut out a bunch of the good parts in the movie.

The Princess and the Frog was a good book too, except that it wasn't actually anywhere real, so the New Orleans thing is kinda cut out. Plus there's no Shadow Man in that book. I think. Loved the movie a lot, though.

Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. I'm serious. Some people are just oblivious. And also...Twilight.

I've actually read Mary Poppins, and it's actually part of a series of books. It's way different from the movie.

I would ask if you're kidding but you said you're serious. o.O I suddenly hear Ron in my head saying "How thick can you get?"

I have the whole series. Mary Poppins is mean. And also the story was kind of weird. There was one part where their mother had twins, so Mary took them out on an an outing while the kids were being born, and when they got back they were like "A baby? Where did that come from?" and I was like "You didn't notice?"

Honestly, it was a while ago, and I said something to someone about something in the sixth book and they went 'How do you know that? The sixth film hasn't come out yet.'

I knew all of these were books before movies. ^^ How cool is that?

So did I. And I knew about the play thing for Peter Pan ((Finding Neverland, anyone?)). :green:

I thought she was... Obviously not.

If you watch the movie, though, it's interesting to see how many little bits and pieces of the books they fit in the movie, like all the characters Bert sings to in the beginning.

Clash of the Titans is a book. Although you wouldn't think to match them up because they have completely different plots. It saddens me.

Percy Jackson was great until Hollywood went for it. They actually completely closed off the storyline... and they did it in the most stupid way ever. Now everyone thinks that the books were as rubbish as the films.

I wanted to strangle Christopher Colombus... I was able to see about 10 or so mistakes in the previews they had, but my hopes remained strong. And then I watched the movie and realized that they didn't read the book all that much. Persephone's pearls? Gimme a break...

I was just drinking and literally did the cartoon spraying out drink thing. They got Persephone to give them the pearls? You've got to be kidding me.

She wasn't even in the series 'till the fifth book.

I've read (and I own) the first five books of HTTYD, and I have read Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz, James and the Giant Peach, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. And did you know that Howl's Moving Castle, popularized by Hayao Miyazaki, was also a book? It's brilliant, really. Both the film and book are nice.
